Daily American Somerset, Pa.
Beverly Healthcare in Meyersdale [Pa.] is changing more than its appearance—it's changing its culture. The Meyersdale nursing home is participating in a project that is creating a more empowered lifestyle for its residents by giving them greater choices, independence and—ultimately—more dignity.
The first challenge—one primarily of mind-set—was met with enthusiasm by staff, residents and their families alike. More changes continue and with them come positive feedback from staff, residents and families.
"Our residents have created their 'neighborhoods,' developing, relationships with those who will be their companions and support group," says Sandra Grenke, Executive Director of Beverly Healthcare Meyersdale. "This is an important change, and one that we'll continue to work on together—associates, residents and families alike—as we move forward with additional changes."
Beverly Healthcare Meyersdale also created "teams" of caregivers who serve a variety of residents' needs. A team is assigned a permanent position in a neighborhood, which helps maintain continuity of care, and further emphasizes the importance of a homelike, family environment. Residents now have specific individuals to make sure their needs are met.
Beverly Healthcare Meyersdale provides quality healthcare for up to 99 residents, including those needing skilled nursing and rehabilitative care. The nursing home has been part of the Meyersdale community for over 20 years. Beverly Healthcare Meyersdale is located at 201 Hospital Drive in Meyersdale, and can be reached by calling 814-634-5966.
