This Letter to the Editor, written by the family of a resident, was reprinted with permission from the Nov. 3, 2003, edition of the Northeast Independent in Grand Island, Neb.
There is a very special lady in Grand Island named Colleen Opfer, who performed acts of kindness to our mother, Marjorie M. Reynoldson, during the many days in June when we thought Mom would not live. Even though Colleen isn't on the staff at Park Place, her mother lives there, so Colleen was in and out often and took time to get acquainted with my mom long before she was anywhere near death.
When we thought we were going to lose our mother in June, Colleen prayed with our family, spoke specifically to Mom, bathed her, rubbed her feet and legs with lotion, and brought bottled water and a variety of soda pop to keep the family hydrated as we spent time around the clock with Mom.
The staff at Park Place gave Mom loving care and we are so grateful for them. Colleen was also at Mom's bedside in her last hour. To watch her lovingly touch our mother with gentleness brought comfort to all of us who witnessed her love. Mom truly was loved by the staff at Park Place, her family and Colleen Opfer.
Thanks, Colleen.
Helen and Kenny Brandt and family
