(FORT SMITH, Ark., Oct. 14, 2002) -- Beverly Healthcare today announced that seven of its nursing homes received the 2002 American Health Care Association (AHCA) Quality Award. Six Beverly Healthcare homes earned Step 1 awards, and one home earned a Step 2 award.
AHCA Quality Awards recognize the top nursing homes in the nation. These prestigious awards recognize the healthcare companies that demonstrate a strong commitment to implementing the principles of continuous quality improvement.
"We are proud of our award recipients that join award winners from previous years," said Chief Operating Officer Dave Devereaux. "Quality Award-winning homes have identified their customers' expectations and have shown an understanding of their residents' needs. They exemplify our mission: To improve the lives of the people we serve through compassion and innovation in healthcare."
The AHCA Quality Award is modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige Award. Nursing homes submit an application that includes information on customers, organizational structure, surveys and staffing. The applications are judged based on stringent criteria, and company names remain anonymous until award determinations have been made.
Step 1 award recipients are required to have demonstrated that they defined the vision and goals of their nursing home and established the environment for continuous quality improvement.
Step 2 award recipients are required to have demonstrated that they developed and applied quality methods across 11 categories -- customer-driven quality; leadership; continuous improvement and learning; employee participation and development; fast response; design quality and prevention; long-range view of the future; management by fact; partnership development; facility responsibility and citizenship; and focus on results.
